The new station and training unit will be built in Carlton Road, Batley Carr.
West Yorkshire Fire Service plans to demolish the existing Meadow Mills building in order to build on the site. When work is completed it will become a fully functional fire station with a five storey training tower.
Kirklees planning officers gave conditional approval to the proposals last Friday 12/04.
The new station is part of an £18m plan announced in December 2011 to help the fire service save £4m a year. It includes replacing 10 stations across the county with five new ones. The new Batley Carr station will replace existing sites in Huddersfield Road, Dewbsury, and Carlinghow Lane, Batley.
It will mean the loss of 24 jobs, but this is expected to be done through retirements.
The Fire Station manned by retained staff at Mirfield will be unaffected by these plans
