UPDATE!! Chemical Alert at Bradford School

Fire crews attended the Chellow Heights School on Netherlands Avenue, late Saturday morning. Crews used Breathing apparatus and protective suits to deal with a spillage of Ammonia in the basement of the School. 

Three workmen were transported to hospital by ambulance who were suffering after breathing in the fumes.The Brigades DIM unit  (Detection, Identification and Monitoring) (DIM) attended from Dewsbury 

The substance was diluted and the incident declared safe and  crews left the scene shortly before 2 pm after spending 3 hours dealing with the incident.

Breaking!!!! Second blaze at White Swan in Wibsey, Bradford within Hours

Fire crews were called out again tonight after smoke was spotted coming from the White Swan public house in Wibsey.  Fire crews this time from Odsal, Fairweather Green, Bradford and Cleckheaton attended. The call around 9:00pm was the second fire within hours at the High Street site.

The fire was not visible 

from outside the property but heavy smoke issued from the fire in the roof area of the pub. Crews used ladders to access the roof from the front while the CARP (Combined Aerial Rescue Pump) was used at the rear of the building. This second incident of the day appeared more severe than the earlier incident and more resources were drafted in to tackle the fire. Crews used 2 small jets, 1 hosereel jet, Breathing apparatus and CARP appliance.


A fire investigations officer attended the scene. Salvage work has been started to help protect parts of the property not affected by the fire and minimise water damage.

Fire at White Swan, Wibsey, Bradford.

The Fire service were called to a fire at the White Swan on the High Street in Wibsey at around 4:10pm today. On arrival smoke could be seen with small pockets of fire under the roof tiles at the rear of the public house.

Fire crews used a Hosereel jet,  Breathing apparatus and a Positive Pressure Ventilation Fan, with the CARP appliance from Bradford used to reach the roof area.

No persons were injured in the incident. The main road through Wibsey was closed for a time but has since re-opened as the incident is scaled down.

Pensioner badly injured in Stourton Crash !!

Emergency services at the scene

Emergency services attended the scene on Pontefract Road at Stourton just before 11:00 am this morning (06/02/2015), this was a Road Traffic Collision where a HGV had run into the back of a Vauxhall Zafira.

Local information would suggest that the car had broken down and was awaiting recovery when the smash happened.

The occupant of the vehicle a 76 year old male had to be freed by firefighters. A West Yorkshire Fire Service spokesman said that the vehicle was badly crushed and that the casualty suffered from suspected neck and back injuries, he was taken to Leeds General Infirmary.

Investigations under way by Police

The road was closed by the Police whilst the incident was dealt with. There is no information about the condition of the Volvo HGV driver.

Breaking News !! Man rescued after falling down banking in Queensbury

Fire crews along with the Ambulance and Police services, and support from the Calder Valley Search and Rescue teams were involved in rescuing a man from a steep banking where he had fallen. The call was received just before 12.00pm today. Initial reports stated that the casualty had fallen into water, and a full water rescue attendance was made. 

Attending crews found the male down a steep banking but he had not entered the water. The scene of the incident at Shibden Head Lane, Queensbury was blocked by several emergency vehicles as the rescue unfolded.

The Technical Rescue team from Cleckheaton used level 2 line rescue techniques assisted by the CVSRT to bring the casualty to the top of the banking. Ambulance units dealt with the casualties welfare throughout the whole incident. The Calder Valley Search and Rescue team then transported the casualty from the top of the banking on a sledge into the awaiting Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

The condition of the casualty is unknown at present but he is reported to have been taken to LGI. Appliances attended the Incident from Halifax, Brighouse, Illingworth, Leeds and Cleckheaton along with the Technical Rescue crews.

West Yorkshire Ambulance Service had a rapid response vehicle at the scene, as well as a road ambulance, hazardous area response team and a doctor with the air ambulance crew.
