Breaking!!!! Second blaze at White Swan in Wibsey, Bradford within Hours



Fire crews were called out again tonight after smoke was spotted coming from the White Swan public house in Wibsey.  Fire crews this time from Odsal, Fairweather Green, Bradford and Cleckheaton attended. The call around 9:00pm was the second fire within hours at the High Street site.

The fire was not visible 
from outside the property but heavy smoke issued from the fire in the roof area of the pub. Crews used ladders to access the roof from the front while the CARP (Combined Aerial Rescue Pump) was used at the rear of the building. This second incident of the day appeared more severe than the earlier incident and more resources were drafted in to tackle the fire. Crews used 2 small jets, 1 hosereel jet, Breathing apparatus and CARP appliance.


A fire investigations officer attended the scene. Salvage work has been started to help protect parts of the property not affected by the fire and minimise water damage.

Burglar arrested in rooftop drama by Police using Fire Service Aerial platform in Wibsey, Bradford.

Shortly after midday today Police were called to Holroyd Hill in Wibsey, Bradford after reports of a burglary. As a means of escape the male suspect forced his way out onto the roof by removing tiles and then leaping across to a neighbouring row of terraced houses.  Police officers, PCSO's and the Police Air Support Unit were sent to the scene.

Abuse was shouted towards police and passers by the man from the rooftop. Officers had to standby and a Police dog Unit was requested. Police closed the main route through Wibsey to all traffic and buses were diverted whilst the incident unfolded.

As negotiations with the male took place the Fire Service was requested to attend to assist should a rescue be required.

It took 2 hours before the drama came to an end with the male being talked down by officers. The area around the block of terraced cottages was completely surrounded by officers.

The male could not climb from the roof and was brought safely to the ground using a Fire service Aerial Ladder Platform.

The police officer used the Aerial Ladder Platform from Leeds to go up and rescue the male, who was arrested.The male was taken into custody by the Police and once the area had been secured the road was reopened.
