Major Leeds Fire, Destroys Industrial site at Cross Green.

Fire crews were called to Allied Glass on the Cross Green Estate just before 00:30 hours this morning (07/10/2016).  When the first appliances arrived they were faced with an already well developed fire in a large industrial premises. The premises are used to manufacture glass bottles, and described by the company as a premium glass bottle manufacturer which designs, develops and manufactures luxury glass packaging.

The Incident was quickly increased to 20 pumps and 3 Aerial appliances, due to the severity of the fire with crews tackling the fire defensively.

Explosions were heard as the fire quickly spread throughout  the entire complex. All surrounding roads in the area were closed to traffic whilst crews secured a water supply sufficient to tackle the incident. Hose laying appliances were brought in from both Stanningley and Mirfield with supporting crews. Aerial appliances attended from Leeds, Bradford and Wakefield to assist in surrounding the fire and prevent spread to other premises on the estate.

This image shows a smoke plume rising from the fire in only one sector of the incident which covered an area of approximately 100 m x 50 m in size.

Fire crews will remain at the scene for some considerable time damping down,  when the site is safe investigators will commence checking the scene in an attempt to  find a cause for the fire
