A1(m) at Ferrybridge fire crews responded to an incident involving an HGV and trailer carrying 20 tonnes of baled paper or cardboard. The fire occurred after the vehicle struck the nearside barriers on the southbound carriageway at around 5:35pm, coming to rest on the hard shoulder.



Crews used 2 Large jets with water supplied from a nearby hydrant, 4 pumps attended from Castleford, Pontefract, Normanton and Cleckheaton along with a senior advisor.



The motorway was closed for a time whilst the incident was dealt with causing delays on surrounding routes.


There has been no indication as to there being any casualties at the incident, however the Yorkshire Air Ambulance did attend the scene.

Update!!! Investigations into Blaze at Envirowaste Halifax


24 hours on and fire crews are still at the scene of the incident. The fire took hold at Envirowaste Services on Swales Moor Road, Halifax around 4.20pm yesterday afternoon (28/05/15). The blaze involved a large pile of  woodchip, waste rubber and tyres. The fire could be seen for miles around as the fire developed giving off  large clouds of black smoke which covered the area.

Fire crews attended from Halifax, Brighouse, Illingworth, Elland and Odsal, with relief crews attending as the firefighting operations carry on into the evening.

Site staff used mechanical diggers to create a fire break to prevent the fire spreading to unaffected parts of the site. Crews had problems with water pressure in the area but have been able to use 2 large jets and 2 Ground monitors to tackle the fire.

Update: Crews remained in attendance damping down overnight but due to low water pressure the Fire Services High Volume Pump was  brought in from Stanningley Fire Station. Investigations into the fire are now underway with CCTV from the site being examined as part of the process.
Re visits to the site will continue to check for any reignition at the site.
The welfare unit from Fairweather Green was also used due to the protracted nature of the incident.

Suspected Arson at Severe house fire in Great Horton, Bradford

Fire crews were called to Permberton Drive in Great Horton area of Bradford last night at 22:23hrs (07/04/2015) to a house fire. On arrival the fire crews were faced with a serious developing fire which was likely to spread to adjoining properties.



Bradford and Odsal Crews quickly got to work with the the assistance of an appliance from Fairweather Green. Families from adjoining properties were evacuated whilst the fire was dealt with the blaze.



Reports now suggest that the fire could be an arson attack on the premises. Crews used four Large jets, one hosereel jet, four Breathing apparatus sets, Positive pressure ventilation fans and the aerial appliance from Bradford (CARP).




Crowds of local people gathered to watch the incident unfold. Fire investigations are still ongoing and damping down is likely to continue today
