Breaking !!!! School evacuated due to serious fire in classroom at Bradford Primary

Fire crews were called at around 2:45pm this afternoon to St Cuthbert's and The First Martyrs' Catholic Primary School on Scotchman Road Heaton in the city. All children and staff were evacuated from the school as a serious fire was developing within the building. First fire crews who arrived saw the severity of the school fire which was well alight. The incident commander requested further assistance and a total of seven appliances and a Command Unit were sent to assist with the fire.

The early intervention by crews prevented the fire from consuming the whole school as Breathing apparatus crews used jets to tackle the flames. The school was quickly evacuated with  all children and staff kept safe.

Children and teachers assembled in the adjacent school field off Farfield Street confirming that all persons were accounted for and that no injuries had been caused.

Breathing apparatus teams with a thermal image camera have been checking for heat sources within the building. Other equipment used was 3 Large jets, 6 Breathing apparatus, and Positive Pressure Ventilation.

Crews replenish their Breathing apparatus sets after controlling the blaze with damping down of the scene now being undertaken. The CARP appliance from Bradford station was used to check for any hotspots on the roof and crews have since been reduced at the site.

Police have now cordoned off  the area surrounding the fire scene with investigation underway to establish the cause of the fire.

Fire crews from Bradford CARP, Odsal, Idle, Rawdon, Cleckheaton, Shipley with Command Unit light and pump from Fairweather Green attended along with other supervisory officers
