Update !! Three youths arrested following Major Ten Pump Blaze in Bramley, Leeds


Three Youths have been arrested overnight by West Yorkshire police in connection with last nights fire. All three are currently in custody. They have not been named but all are believed to live in the Bramley area.

Investigations are still continuing and last reports from West Yorkshire Fire Service state that the Incident has been down scaled to two pumps and one aerial appliance maintaining control of the fire whilst reducing impact to the local community. The crews are fighting the fire from a safe distance due to the unsafe structure.

Fire investigators are working alongside partners to establish the cause of a fire at Waterloo Lane in Bramley, Leeds.

• Latest traffic situation: Waterloo Lane in Bramley is closed in both directions between the A657 Upper Town Street junction and the Broad Lane junction. A diversion is in operation.

• Raynville Road between Outgang Lane and Waterloo Way is also affected.


• Bus services 85, 87 and 91 are being diverted via Broad Lane and Town Street.

Fire crews were called at around 8:40 pm last night (30/05/2016) to reports of a large building on fire at Bramley, Leeds with numerous calls being received from members of the public. The incident behind Bramley shopping centre, was a single storey empty warehouse property and was well alight when the first crews arrived from Leeds and Stanningley.

This incident became a MP x 10 and Aerials 2 and water was needed quickly to surround the fire and prevent it spreading to surrounding exposure risks. Crowds gathered around the area as more fire appliances arrived at the scene. Roads surrounding the area soon became gridlocked and police were brought in to try and deal with the problem as fire appliances were struggling as well to reach the incident.

Road closures are currently in place in Waterloo Lane, Town Street in Bramley, Broad Lane and Raynville Road. These are likely to remain in place overnight to allow the fire service to tackle the blaze. The cause of the fire is not yet known and no injuries have been reported. There have not yet been any evacuations of nearby properties, although these may be required as the situation develops. 
Detective Inspector Phil Jackson, of Leeds District CID, said: "At this time the safety of all those involved is paramount.

At it’s height 10 pumps and two aerial appliances were in attendance at the incident along with support units.  Stations attending throughout the incident include: Stanningley, Leeds, Cookridge, Rawdon, Bradford, Moortown, Hunslet, Fairweather Green, Killingbeck, Odsal, Shipley, Halifax, Morley, Ossett, Pontefract, Huddersfield, Bingley, Dewsbury, Cleckheaton, Garforth, Illingworth, Wakefield and specialist officers from across the brigade.. Hose layer appliances were used to ensure a good supply of water was sent to the fireground.

Damping down is now underway with crews using Ground Monitors and Aerial jets. The fire has been fought defensively as the building was too unsafe for crews to enter.






WYFRS information : Due to a large building fire ongoing at Waterloo Lane, Bramley, please be aware, if you live in the New Farnley, Churwell or Gildersome and surrounding areas, please keep your doors & windows closed due to large amounts of smoke in the atmosphere at the moment. Once the fire is out investigations will be made to try and find the cause of the fire.
