Man arrested after Gas Explosion and Fire in Tingley

Emergency services were called to the semi detached bungalow on The Crescent at Tingley aroung 09:30Hrs this morning (28/05/2014). This was to a report of a house fire resulting from an explosion at the property.

View of the substantial damage caused

Neighbours heard a huge explosion and saw 10ft-high flames lapping the roof at around 9.30am today. An eyewitness at the scene saw fire crews leading a man out of the house.

Ambulance HART teams stand by

The male casualty was suffering from smoke inhalation and also burns to his arms and was taken to hospital by ambulance. Fire Police and Ambulance crews responded quickly to the incident.

Plan of action being decided

Fire crews from Morley, Rothwell, Wakefield, Dewsbury, Technical Rescue Unit and the timber support unit from Cleckheaton with the aerial appliance from Wakefield.

The rescued male has been since been arrested on suspicion of arson.
Detective inspector Sean Duggan, of Leeds CID, said: “A house fire at a property in Tingley, is now being treated as arson and an investigation has been launched by West Yorkshire Police.

Northern Gas Networks confirmed the blast was caused by a gas explosion and structural engineers are checking the safety of the remains of the building.

Fire crews were called to the scene at Topcliffe Farm off Dewsbury road, Tingley at 14:24 today (15/03/14). When crews arrived they found a Light Goods Vehicle and tyres on fire. Due to the area of the fire assistance was requested making this incident a MP x 5 and Hose Layer. Crews used the nearest hydrant and appliances shuttled water to the fireground. A total of three large jets and four Breathing apparatus were used.
