| Jeff Naylors Funeral as a Turntable Ladder carrying the Coffin passes Keighley Fire station |
Firefighters in Keighley are marking the 30th anniversary of the death of a firefighter. Jeff Naylor suffered extensive burns when he and colleagues battled to rescue five children from a house fire on Broomhill Walk, Keighley, on April 27, 1983. Sadly along with the 31-year-old firefighter and father-of-two who died in hospital ten weeks later, two of the five youngsters also died.
Crew members at the Keighley station have lined up initiatives to raise cash in his memory, including car washes and special wristbands.
Proceeds will be split between The Fire Fighters Charity and the burns unit at Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield, where Mr Naylor was treated.
On April 27th, a remembrance service will be held at the Bradford Road station, where a fire appliance will be named after him.
Watch Commander Steve Moorhouse is appealing for help with a raffle. “If businesses and people could help with raffle prizes, that would be much appreciated,” he said
“If anyone can help, they can contact the station on (01535) 607401. Thankyou”
