Fire crews from Batley, Dewsbury and Mirfield attended the flats on Ashworth road at 4:39pm today.

ALP in use at the scene
The fire at Ashworth Close has gutted the upper floors and the roof has been burnt away by the ferocity of the blaze. An aerial appliance from Wakefield was required to tackle the fire from above.

It is believed that no one has been injured however neighbouring homes needed evacuating.

Crews and appliances at the scene
Fire crews with Breathing apparatus and hosereels tackled the incident from within.

Eyewitnesses on Ashworth Road told me it appears that at least six flats were damaged. Firefighters are still in attendance damping down and a fire investigation will take place into the incident.
