Arson confirmed after Cleckheaton Bowling Club destroyed by Blaze

Arson attack on an empty bowling club in Cleckheaton has resulted with it being destroyed by fire overnight. Fire crews were called just before 3am this morning (08/03/2015) to the reported fire in the old clubhouse. The club was first registered on the site in 1911 and has been empty for some time.

Planning permissions for the site go back to May 2009 when an application was submitted for change of use to have a static caravan on the site.

The WYFRS needed 4 Pumps and an Aerial appliance to tackle the blaze which took around 2 hours to bring under control. Damping down is continuing and an investigation into the fire will be carried out.

Appliances from Cleckheaton, Batley, Odsal, Brighouse and the CARP from Bradford attended the incident. Crews used Three large jets, 1 Hosereel jet, and Aerial monitor. Support officers also attended.
