Breaking!! Large blaze at Yorkshire Martyrs School, Bradford


Yorkshire Martyrs school on Westgate Hill Street in Bradford was involved in a fire this afternoon (21/03/2015). Fire crews were called just before 3.45pm today to reports of the disused school premise being alight.

The building involved is part of a larger school complex and was 100% involved when crews arrived. Firefighters managed to confine the fire to the 2 storey building of origin.

Crews used 4 Large jets, 1 Aerial jet and 6 Breathing apparatus sets. Positive Pressure fans were also used to assist in clearing smoke from the property. Traffic problems developed as more appliances arrived at the scene and hoses were placed across the main A650 road to supply water to the fireground.

The area around the location of the school was shrouded in smoke from the fire.

This incident was a MP x 8 incident with appliances attending from as far away as Castleford and Leeds. Those stations known to have attended are Bradford, Idle, Odsal, Cleckheaton, Morley, Leeds, Stanningley, Fairweather Green, Castleford, Gipton and Batley. Around 70 firefighters were deployed to the incident including support crews and officers. 
Damping down may take fire crews through the night with fire investigation being carried out in daylight hours.
