Fire crews attended the old Maccess site on Nibshaw Lane off Spen lane at Gomersal this evening. Smoke could be seen from the roof of the building as parts, some bitumen covered were ablaze. Crews from Batley, Brighouse, Dewsbury, Odsal and the CARP from Bradford attended the scene.
Initial reports were that children might be inside the building, but a search proved that nobody was inside the property. The 2 storey building measures approx 30m x 30m and 3 Large jets, 2 Hosereels and 4 Breathing apparatus were used, this along with the CARP to tackle the fire from above.
Police cordoned off the area closing Spen Lane with diversions in place.
This is the third or fourth time that this derelict building has been alight, the last time in December 2013 where a similar attendance to today's fire was needed to control it. Local residents would prefer to see the building demolished.
