WEST Yorkshire's longest serving full-time fire officer has been promoted to station commander at Bradford. Ronnie Goldwater, 57, has moved to the Leeds Road station from Cleckheaton where he was also station commander.

Mr Goldwater, who joined the brigade in October 1978, has served at 12 different fire stations throughout his career and in each district in West Yorkshire.

He was recently visited by the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Joanne Dodds, who thanked fire crews for their work over the last year, including tackling the huge fire at Drummond Mill, Lumb Lane, Manningham.

Mr Goldwater said he would continue to focus on home fire safety and the importance of having working smoke detectors, which he said had saved many lives.

"Bradford is a very busy and challenging district. We have a highly motivated crew here who are among the busiest in the region," he said.

Station Manager Goldwater is planning to have an open day at the station on Sunday, August 7.
