The environmental agency attended due to the smoke hazard in the residential area, officials from Bradford council dangerous structures department also attended to examine the building. The buildings structure has been reported unsafe and will have to be demolished.
Fire crews were called to the fire at around 6.30pm yesterday (28/07/2015) at BMW spares on Priestman Street in Manningham, Bradford to a report that the building was on fire. The Single storey unit was well alight when crews arrived and it was thought cylinders could cause an additional hazard.
Local residents gathered to watch as the fire took hold of the building. Explosions could be heard and parts of the roof were blown off by the fire and heat. The fire seemed to spread from the rear of the unit towards the front of the building.
As Police arrived they went to warn local residents to keep there windows and doors closed due to the smoke which poured from the site. Local children and adults were told of the dangers an were kept at a safe distance behind police tape.
Bradford Combined Aerial Rescue Pump was used to cover the fire from above, large jets and Ground monitors were also in use. It seemed that every street corner had a fire hydrant in use in the local area.
The area was cordoned off by Police and the ambulance HART team were in attendance also. Extra precautions were taken as the roof is thought to contain Asbestos. Firefighters and those close to the scene wore face-masks to protect them from the fumes. Police officers were also issued with mask as this was deemed a hazardous area.
The firefighting took place from outside the building due to the hazards that existed. It is thought that the works were closed at the time of the fire and that nobody has been injured at the incident.
The incident became an 8 pump fire with crews from Bradford (2), Fairweather Green, Idle, Shipley, Rawdon, Bingley, Cleckheaton,(1 Stanningley (1 and HL), Batley (1 and CSU) and a welfare unit. Senior officers also attended.
