Dewsbury Auctions was a long-established family firm set up by Oscar Crow in 1947. It continued to be run by the Crow family until the business closed around two years ago, since when the building has remained empty.
The fire on Sunday (19/07/2015) has been reported as being caused by a Cannabis Plant Production operation inside the property. It was discovered by firefighters as they entered the building on Sunday evening to dampen down the scene of the fire.
The Building on fire was close to nearby houses and close residents were asked to leave their homes, whilst those further from the fire were told to keep windows closed.
All the firefighting was done from outside the building due to it's dangerous condition, with debris falling from the roof structure. The image shows the CARP appliance from Huddersfield tackling the fire from above.
