Teenager Dies in Rail Tragedy at Wrenthorpe near Wakefield


A teenager named as Kyle Bradley who was fatally injured last night, is believed to have climbed on to a freight train and come into contact with overhead power lines at Wrenthorpe Sidings, Wakefield, at around 6.40pm (11/07/2015).

Emergency services were called to the scene and the area around Fox lane that runs under the rail line was sealed off, allowing fire and ambulance crews do deal with the incident. Bradford road was closed as emergency vehicles blocked the roadway.

Two other teenagers who were with Kyle at the time, were taken to Pinderfields hospital by Air ambulance
The extent of their injuries is unknown, but they are not thought to be life-threatening. 

British transport police are looking into the full circumstances of the incident.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of his death, although at this stage it would appear that the two boys and the female were on the railway line and the 15-year-old boy had climbed on to a freight train at the location and came in to contact with the power lines. “His death is not being treated as suspicious.

Firefighters from Wakefield attended the incident, along with Cleckheaton’s Technical Resuce Unit. Mike Ferries, Watch Commander at Wakefield Fire Station, said: “On behalf of the emergency services, we offer condolences to the family.

Emergency crews left the scene at around 11:30 and the main Bradford road was reopened.
