M606 closed due to Serious RTC on the Northbound carriageway


Yorkshire Air ambulance at the scene of the Road Traffic Collision on the northbound carriageway of the M606. Crews were called at around 2:00pm to the collision between Junction 2 and Staithgate roundabout. Fire crews from Odsal and Cleckheaton attended the incident and released casualties. It is believed that four vehicles were involved and that at least one person was seriously injured.



Traffic was diverted Southbound by taking vehicles off and then back on again via junction 2, with all northbound traffic being taken off at Junction 2 and having to use Staithgate Lane to reach the ring road and Odsal.. The motorway remains closed northbound at present with the Southbound now fully re-opened.

The full circumstances of the incident are currently being investigated but the road is currently closed just before junction two on the Northbound carriageway. Resulting heavy traffic off the motorway whilst the diversions are in place.

Man charged with Leeds Majestic Building Fire



Resulting from Tuesday nights fire which destroyed the domed roof of the 1921 grade II-listed building in City Square, Stuart James Jefferson appeared at Leeds Magistrates’ Court this morning (Thursday 02.10.2014) after being charged with arson at the Majestic building in Leeds on the night of the 30th September.
During the ten-minute hearing the 32-year-old, who gave his address as Broadlea Street in Bramley, Leeds, pleaded not guilty.
District Judge Roy Anderson gave him unconditional bail, but the prosecution then immediately appealed the decision. A crown court judge must now decide within 48 hours whether to grant Mr. Jefferson bail.The case will be dealt with at the Crown Court, where the first hearing is due to take place on October 16th.





Further traffic disruptions have taken place today as the remnants of the roof are made safe. Despite the extensive damage, it is believed the building itself is structurally sound and could be restored.

Major Leeds Blaze at Majestyk Nightclub City Square. Update Man Arrested !!!

Firefighters from across West Yorkshire were called to the scene of the fire at the two-storey building at the junction of Wellington Street and Quebec Street in City Square. The alarm was raised around 7.20pm. when plumes of grey smoke could be seen emitting from the roof of the building and from a first floor window facing out onto Wellington Street

 West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service could not comment about the cause of the fire but it did confirm that the blaze had initially involved about ten per cent of the first floor of the building.

The initial fire was believed to have been under control but gradually worsened as time went on. The Initial attendance of 2 pumps Leeds and ALP with 2 pumps from Hunslet was soon made up to Ten Pumps and Three Aerial appliances.

Water was obtained from hydrants around the City area along with supplies from a Water Tank situated under City Square.

From the time of the incident being reported , five hours later the roof was still alight with ground monitors and Aerial appliances being used.

The whole area around the building was closed off, allowing room for the extra fire engines. The highways in the immediate vicinity of the building were then closed and pedestrians moved from the close proximity of the fire by the Police.

A 32-year-old man was arrested last night after witnesses reported seeing a man acting suspiciously in the area. He remains in custody at this time.
The fire was reported at about 7.20pm last night and police are appealing for anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area in the time leading up to the fire to contact us.”
West Yorkshire Police say road closures and diversions remain in place around City Square and police officers are in the area to assist with management of the scene.

Trailers alight in yard, Shetcliffe Lane, Bradford.


Fire crews from Bradford and Odsal were called to the fire in a yard off Shetcliffe Lane at around 4:30pm today. This involved 2 trailers parked in a yard which were well alight on arrival.


Smoke from the fire could be seen around Bradford, it appeared to be a large scale fire from a distance.  Crews used 2 Large jets and 2 Breathing apparatus to extinguish the blaze.


Once sufficient water supplies were established the fire was quickly put out.

Building collapse in West Bowling, Bradford.

A Major response was made this afternoon to a house on Parkside road in the West Bowling area of Bradford.

Crews were alerted at 3.24pm today to reports of a collapsed floor in a terraced property on Parkside Road. A full emergency operation was made to the scene by all the emergency services.

On arrival fire crews had to deal with casualties, a collapsed kitchen floor and also a gas leak within the inner terraced property. There were three adults and two children injured at the incident, with two of these casualties being taken to hospital by ambulance for check ups. Having spoken to residents a child's birthday party was underway at the time of the incident.

Fire crews used Positive Pressure Ventilation fans and Breathing apparatus after the property was cleared of casualties and the Gas board attended to turn off the gas supply to the property.

Parkside road was closed from Henley Road to Birch Lane for access of emergency services.

Fire appliances and crews from Bradford, Odsal along with Cleckheaton Technical rescue units all attended the scene. A specialist DIM unit (http://www.romar.org.uk/page134.html ) attended.

An investigation into the collapse is now underway with Parkside Road reopened to traffic.

Damping down continues after Bradford Mill Blaze

Fire crews are still in attendance today (Tuesday) damping down with a section of Mill lane closed to traffic as operations continue. One appliance from Bradford station remained today using a ground monitor jet.




An investigation is underway into the cause of the fire on Saturday Morning (23rd August) but as yet no cause has been fully established.



The upper three floors of the building were disused but the ground floor contained two businesses, Realize Concept Interior Ltd and H20 Auto Tint and Valet Center. Most of the roof collapsed in the blaze. 


The roof of the building has collapsed and one end of the buildings wall is to be checked by Building Inspectors to check the structural stability of the mill.

Large fire destroys Mill in Bradford

Fire crews from across the Brigade Area were in action this morning (Saturday 23rd August)as a fire took hold of Ivy Mills, on Mill Lane, Bradford. 


 

Crews were alerted at 07:50hrs and responded initially from Bradford and Odsal stations .
On arrival the building which was well alight required more resources and the Incident was made up to a MP x 10 attendance with 2 Aerial appliances.




Onlookers watched as the fire developed, surrounding roads were closed to allow water to be brought to the incident from Manchester Road and Bolling Road.  


Loud bangs could be heard as chemicals stored in the building and parts of the building collapsed internally with roof tiles falling to the ground

In total 11 large jets were used during the defensive firefighting tactical mode. The building was unsafe for crews to enter.
Jim Butters, Area manager at West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, said: "It was just impossible to get to the fire inside and it spread across three floors of the building."

Aerial appliance attended from Leeds and Bradford CARP was also used. A fire investigation has already been started to establish the cause of the fire.
Representatives from Bradford Council's building control department will visit the site on Tuesday to assess the future of the building.
It was hoped Nelson Street will be re-opened to traffic later today (Sunday)

 


ACO Walton attended the incident as a senior advisor to other officers in attendance. The three storey mill was approx 80m x 30m and operations were sectorised.

Crews used an entrance from Ludlam Street to access the Manchester road side of the fire with a CARP and Ground Monitor being used.

Appliances from Bradford, Odsal, Fairweather Green, Idle, Shipley, Bingley, Rawdon, Halifax, Leeds, Brighouse, Elland, Cleckheaton, Batley attended.

"The building has been on fire five or six times in ten years, but I've never, ever seen it this bad.
