Fire Crews rescue female from empty Nightclub fire in Quebec Street, Bradford



Around 5.45pm this evening (27/04/2016) Fire crews were called to a fire at the rear of the Mode nightclub on Quebec Street in Bradford. They found an outbuilding attached to the property well alight and and rescued a female from the property. 

The female was given oxygen therapy by fire crews before the paramedic crews arrived on scene. Due to the difficult access firefighters used a ladder to reach the affected structure. It is thought that the female did not require hospital treatment after being checked over by paramedics at the scene





Firefighters used 1 Hosereel jet and 2 Breathing apparatus sets to tackle the fire.  Three appliances, Bradford (2) and Odsal (1) attended along with a total of 5 ambulance vehicles and crews.

Two Children rescued from Bolton Woods Quarry, Bradford by Firefighters

Two boys both aged around ten have been rescued by fire crews tonight, after fire crews were alerted at around 7pm to a report of persons trapped on a ledge in the Bolton Wood Quarry, Bolton Hall Road, Bradford. 


On arrival it was established that two children had become trapped on a ledge approximately 20' from the ground.  A firefighter was lowered by line to the ledge below along with a ladder and the boys were then recovered using the ladder, helped down by firefighters.
The boys although shaken up by their ordeal were both recovered without sustaining injury


Appliances from line rescue stations were sent to the scene with appliances from Bradford (2), Shipley, Rawdon and Cleckheaton with the Technical Rescue Unit. Police and Ambulance also attended the scene with further support from the Calder Valley Search and Rescue team.




Mans Hand Blown off at St Georges day Festival at Morley

Sunday (24/04/2016) saw a parade of hundreds of participants led by St George himself which left Morley Town Hall arriving at Morley rugby and cricket club grounds on Scatcherd Lane, for the annual family event.

The event soon turned to tragedy during the The Northern WW11 Associations - battle re-enactment. One of the soldiers was severely injured by an explosion from a Mortar being used in the display. Hundreds watched while the casualty was treated by first aid personnel on site until the arrival of the West Yorkshire ambulance responders, backed up by ambulance crews.


The West Yorkshire Ambulance Helicopter had been requested but both were out at incidents.

As people attended to the casualty it became clear from the reports that the mans hand had been blown off in the explosion with his son also being caught up and injured in the incident

The scene was preserved by the police with firearms officers attended to check that the Mortar had been made safe. Crime Scene Investigators attended and later the Mortar was taken away by an armed police response team. 

People were shocked and one eye witness described the scene as horrific. The event field was cordoned off eventually and all anxious on lookers removed from the area.

The injured parties were taken to St James Hospital in Leeds, Police investigations are ongoing

Second fire strikes Bradford derelict mill littered with drugs paraphernalia

A fire at the derelict building on Vincent street off  Thornton Road in the city has been set ablaze for a second time in a week. Fire crews were called to the derelict mill on Thursday night (21/04/2016) at around 22:00hrs when smoke and flame could be seen rising from the roof of the premises. 


They set about tackling the fire and their early intervention prevented a more serious fire from developing. Crews used 2 Large jets and a jet from a CARP appliance to deal with the incident, with crews attending from Bradford (2), Fairweather Green (1 + CU + Welfare Unit), Odsal and Idle.



A West Yorkshire Fire Service spokesman said it was believed the blaze took hold after people in the mill started a fire to keep warm. He added that drug paraphernalia was also found in the building.

The incident was made up to Five pumps but was soon reduced when the fire was under control.

WEST Yorkshire's longest serving full-time fire officer has been promoted to station commander at Bradford

WEST Yorkshire's longest serving full-time fire officer has been promoted to station commander at Bradford. Ronnie Goldwater, 57, has moved to the Leeds Road station from Cleckheaton where he was also station commander.

Mr Goldwater, who joined the brigade in October 1978, has served at 12 different fire stations throughout his career and in each district in West Yorkshire.

He was recently visited by the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Joanne Dodds, who thanked fire crews for their work over the last year, including tackling the huge fire at Drummond Mill, Lumb Lane, Manningham.

Mr Goldwater said he would continue to focus on home fire safety and the importance of having working smoke detectors, which he said had saved many lives.

"Bradford is a very busy and challenging district. We have a highly motivated crew here who are among the busiest in the region," he said.

Station Manager Goldwater is planning to have an open day at the station on Sunday, August 7.

Witness appeal after Ford Focus crashes on to M1 Motorway from the A63 at Colton Leeds

Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision near to Junction 46 of the M1 today 



The incident occurred around 10:25am as a white Ford Focus was travelling along Selby Road, from Garforth when it is believed to have lost control and travelled across the grassed roundabout above the M1 motorway at Junction 46, before crashing through the barriers and falling down the embankment to the motorway carriageway and overturning.

The driver, a 33-year-old man was rescued from the vehicle by the Fire Service, and was taken to Leeds General Infirmary by Ambulance.

He was treated for serious injuries which are now not believed to be life-threatening.



Police Constable Michelle Yule of the Safer Roads and Neighbourhoods Support Team said; "This incident has occurred in the early part of the day, when there will have been a number of people using the local roads who may have seen either the vehicle prior to the incident, or who may have seen the incident itself and I would urge them to come forward. Enquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances of what took place."

Arson blaze at Community Advice Centre in Bradford

Canterbury Advice croppedFire crews were called to the Canterbury Advice Centre at around 07:00 this morning after smoke was seen coming from the property on Ringwood Road, Bradford. Apparently the building was set ablaze following a break-in and police have launched an investigation into the incident.

Crews from Bradford (2) and Odsal attended and used 2 Hosereel jets, Breathing apparatus sets and a Positive Pressure Ventilation Fan to clear smoke from the 2 storey property.


Odsal Watch Commander Andy Thornton said "There had been signs of a break-in and multiple seats of fire on both floors of the building. "The fires involved filing cabinets, desks and other office furniture. "We did not know if anyone was inside and two sets of breathing apparatus were deployed to check that the building was clear. "30 to 40 per cent of the building was on fire, but it was under control and extinguished within an hour."

It was not known if flammable liquids or materials had been brought into the building but CID police officers were at the scene starting their investigations.
