| Scene of the blaze on Cockley Hill Lane |
The blaze broke out at Hill Top Farm on Cockley Hill Lane, Kirkheaton last night at 9.47pm and saw crews in attendance until 5am this morning to bring it under control and dampen down.
Fire crews from Huddersfield, Mirfield and Dewsbury were called and reports were of half the building being alight. The barn was used to store animals winter feed, and there were also concerns for the barn roof which was made from asbestos.
Dewsbury Watch Commander Chris Johnson told how they were hampered in their efforts by a shortage of water hydrants and forced to lay hoses across roads some distance away.
No one was injured in the fire which is thought to have started due to over heating and chemical reactions in the hay.
An investigation is now underway.
