Updated !! Scrap Yard Blaze at Tong

Crews were called at around 06:15hrs to reports of a scrap yard fire involving tyres at Westgate Hill Street, Tong at Bradford. There was a well developed fire on arrival and further assistance was required. Appliances from Odsal, Bradford, Leeds, Morley, Cleckheaton, Fairweather Green, Batley and Stanningley attended.
A water shortage due to pressure in the mains was an issue and so a Hose Layer vehicle was asked for.


Crews and Lines

Fire crews have worked in a defensive mode surrounding the fire using ground monitors and lashed hand held jets, A 200m exclusion zone is in place as acetelyene cylinders are involved, some of which have already been removed with early intervention

Evacuations of local residents was undertaken to ensure safety of the public around the incident site.

The A650 was closed to traffic at Westgate Hill Street due to the incident

The incident has now been scaled down and reduced to 4 pumps damping down and making area safe.
